DJ Game Girl
Out of the most unlikely beginnings, one of the country’s most game changing deejays

has emerged.  This is the story of DJ Game.

Born Priya Roshni Narayan on the island of Fiji, this young woman of Hindu upbringing  moved to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada at the tender age of 2.  As the child of a clergyman, the idea of pursuing a career as an Urban deejay did not seem apparent.

Influenced by her father’s love of music as the lead singer in a band in her native Fiji, Priya would spend hours experimenting with a variety of musical instruments on-hand in the family home where she developed a true ear for music.  As a teenager, Edmonton, Alberta did not offer many options for urban clubs and venues albeit that this genre was at the height of popularity on the radio, and she and her friends would frequent the same handful of “hotspots” to get their fill of hip-hop, R’n’B and Reggae.  It was in 2002, in a haphazard remark to her best friend that this music lover would resolve to be a future music provider.

After consulting a good friend, an established DJ, she acquired her first pieces of DJ equipment; Stanton™ turntables and a Behringer™ mixer.   The mission to transition from being an expert with crochet needles (yes, I said crochet) to droppin’ needles on vinyl had begun.  Priya took a very studious approach to learning her craft; everything from reading “How To DJ” books from the bookstore to perching herself at DJ booths at the local clubs to observe and absorb the intricate skill of counting Bpms and blending two records seamlessly to produce an effect that was pleasing to the listening ear.

When her first mix came together using DTP’s “Growing Pains” and Scarface’s and Jay- Z’s collaboration on “Guess Who’s Back”, Priya realized she’d nailed in, and the next chapter of her career would start.   In the summer of 2004, Priya was hired for her first show, a BET Comedy Showcase where she met her future mentor, a native Torontonian DJ who goes by Lovejones.  With intensive teaching and training, he helped her become a better deejay, to think like a deejay, conduct herself like a deejay, and critique her own work as a deejay.  It was through this connection, that the birth of G.A.M.E. – “Girls About Makin’ Endz” came about.  Embracing her femininity, and settling with the name DJ Gamegirl, this independent woman, who had painstakingly learned the art of deejaying, was ready to unleash her talent on the world.

Since 2004, DJ Gamegirl has gone on to serve as resident DJ at a long list of hot nightclubs in Western Canada,  made guest spins on popular mix shows on Edmonton’s Bounce 91.7 “The Drive Home Mixshow” and “The Weekend House Party”, and has an extensive catalogue of mixtapes, and signature podcasts called “Pod Pumper” on www.djgamegirl/podomatic.com.  She co-produced Edmonton’s largest Caribbean festival known as “Islandfest” from 2007 to 2009.  She has also been recognized by her industry peers with 4 Stylus DJ Awards nominations including “Female DJ of the Year”, and “DJ of the Year” for Western Canada.  If all of this wasn’t enough to keep DJ Gamegirl busy, she is also regularly booked for concert tours, fashion and auto shows, school dances and private weddings.

DJ Gamegirl is the total package; a beautiful woman with skills to rock the party out.  From Urban to Soca, Reggae to Rock, this girl isn’t here to play games; she’s ready to play to win.
